Surrey Bend Regional Park

Surrey Bend Regional Park is the newest park in Surrey.  It is 348 hectares of forest, marsh and bog with great trails, a nature discovery area, interpretive exhibits, and three covered picnic shelters.  Located along the Fraser River near Barnston Island at 17529 112 Avenue Surrey, it is a quiet and somewhat remote location; if you follow 176th north, you turn right at the bottom of the hill.

We entered the park and went to the nature discovery area.  The paths are all flat and jogging stroller friendly (not paved.)

Below is just one of the three covered picnic table areas–so helpful in an area where we tend to get some rain.  There are also pit toilets located near the parking lot.

The sandy play area has wooden structures for the kids to explore.  There isn't a lot for the younger kids, other than the sand itself.

We walked down the path towards the water and the view is of the Fraser River with the mountains in the background–it's very similar to Derby Reach in Langley.

We decided to walk the Spirea Loop Trail which is 1.7 km long.  We did veer off onto the Pacific Trail for a bit but we weren't sure how long that trail was so headed back to the Spirea Loop.

Isn't this bridge/bench combo beautiful?  It's so unique and quite practical!

A lot of the trail is just wide open spaces with a backdrop of forest and mountains.

There are plenty of dandelions to entertain kids of all ages.  Along with the flowers are many types of  birds.  If birdwatching is your thing, you'll definitely want to check it out.

Wouldn't this be a gorgeous location for family photos?

We look forward to heading back to Surrey Bend Regional Park to check out a couple of the trails that we did not get to.  If you're looking for quiet wide open spaces, you might want to check it out.

Love,
Louise
