Peek-a-boo!

Okay, when does peek-a-boo lose its appeal?! He loves it more than anything and I'm getting a little bored of it. Actually, really, really bored of it. What a terrible mom, I know:)

Kai loves his balloon. Being that it is a helium one, I've been reaching for it many times today when he `accidentally' lets it go.

Excited, yet not excited, about his new hat

Loving his `job' of carrying the junk mail home from the mailbox.

Looking out the window to Opi's house. All day long, `Opi? Opi? Opi?'. `Kai, opi is at work, we'll see him later'. (NOTE: my dad literally lives across the street).

Snow Day

Very exciting that there is finally a snow day EXCEPT this was my regular day off anyway!!! Oh well. Its still nice to have Gary home so I can have some alone time (that doesn't sound right!). Let's see, what's new?
-purchased some great squid, with the innards, at the local Asian supermarket for tomorrow's dissection and feast:)
-went to a swap meet this weekend and got some great dealios on clothes. I also bought Kai a nursery rhyme book and he has been LOVING `Old MacDonald' (he says EIEIEIEIEIEO) and `Itsy Bitsy Spider'. He is also saying a lot more like; okay, lunch, boots...really, he will repeat whatever we say.
-Gary gets to go to the dentist today to have a crown fitted and then its off to bball
-I'm off to Bamfield in a week from now (with my Biology 11 classes)...3 days away from the little guy (and this big guy too I guess). Hope the trip goes well!
-I'll have to get some pictures on here although there isn't much to take pictures of right now...Kai is still cute and Gary and I are just the same:)
-I've been trying to reach my friends in Kenya to see how they are (two teachers and a pastor there that have access to email usually once a week) but I have not heard back from any of them. It is very sad to hear about it on the news. They are generally quite peaceful in Kenya and have been for many years. I read somewhere that they have so little and when you take away the power of their vote, what is left? Politics are so important there. Even if you have nothing else in your home, a picture of the president is a must. I miss Kenya, my students, and my friends. It's hard hearing about the violence in all the places that I have been.

Giggles before bed

He now likes piggy back rides but isn't the best at holding on. So, if he says `back', that is what he is talking about. Another big word is `Gack'. This is his way of saying Jack. My dad wanted to be called just `Jack', not opa or grandpa. We have comprimised to Opi Jack. Kai gets a big kick out of saying Gack. He also gave Opi lots of kisses last night...he usually NEVER gives kisses. Very lucky Opi Gack.

Look at his eyes. Cute. You can see his blanket holding technique here...his right thumb is always in his mouth, then his left hand finds a corner and stuffs it into his right hand so he can suck on the blanket at the same time. Not too interesting, but when I look back at this a year from now, I'll think its cute:) He likes to look at the pictures on the camera and say his name which rotates between `Kai' and `Dai'.

Here I'm making Gary take a picture of us. He does not like it when I `make' him do this. However, our pictures of us:Kai is about 1:100,000 so its time to get more pics of us!

Below, giggles with mommy...

Giggles with daddy...

Have a good weekend everyone. I am NOT looking forward to 4 days of snow. Well, if there is a day off school because of it, I'm in:) It's just that its been sooo cold.

Buddies

This Monday, I found a new daycare for Kai which will begin mid February. We love where we have been but she is no longer able to do it. Hopefully he will enjoy the new one just as much. We visited for an hour and he cried when we had to leave so that is a good sign!
Kai wanted to mark labs just like mommy today. I gave him some paper to scribble on and he felt pretty important. (seriously, not a set up picture, he was very intent on it)
Izzy and Ani came to visit
This is how Kai shows Ani he loves her. She's not so into it.
Kai! No! (we hear this many times)
Upstairs to play with the train.

Eating cookies on the bottom step. Kai has been getting really excited about seeing/playing with other kids these days. He's not sure how to play nicely (twice he hit ani on the head with objects) but he gets so happy! He's napping now so I better go get some work done!

Izzy's baptism

My little niece Izzy got baptized today. It was nice that so many family and friends could be there. Kai spent the first half of the service trying to run out the door, collect ant traps and trying to run away with the collection baskets.

Sisters; Ani and Izzy

Izzy wore the baptismal dress that has been in Kris' family for over 100 years.

Whatever Izzy gets, Ani wants too so here she is getting some of the water too!

The gym

Last night, my little sister invited me to a class at the gym. Wow. It brought back many memories for me, sort of like when I went to the pub in December. I used to go to the gym A LOT. I'd say that when I was 22-23, I was probably in the best shape of my life. Lynette and I were doing adventure fit classes and doing adventure racing. I would go to the gym, or run for an hour, at least 4 days a week. I would do about one 10 km race per month (I'm not saying I was good, just in shape!). Last night, when the instructor asked if any of us were runners, I couldn't raise my hand. I haven't run 5 km since July. Back in the day, if the instructor said that we were doing the plank as long as we could, I'd make sure I did it the longest. Last night, I was trying to figure out if I could go the full 30 seconds. Wow. I bet I could get back in shape. But, that takes time. Do I have the time, money, and energy to work out 3-5 days a week? Until I figure that out, I'll stick to walking. Here are some pics from back in the day...I have a lot but I'm not going to scan them. Oh the days before digital:)
Day 1 (above) of our adventure race `Sea 2 Summit' starting in Squamish. This was right before we started our 3 1/2 hour paddle to start the day off. It was a 12 hour day.
Day 2 of Sea 2 Summit in Whistler...this was in between the mountain biking and trekking portion. I believe this day was `only' 10 hours. We finished 4/6 in our category...not bad for our first race!
At a snowshoe running race...`The Yeti'...quite the workout!

My smarty pants

Bubi? Bubi? I love it when he holds his arms out like this when he is looking for something.

Feeding himself

We haven't been practicing him feeding himself with a spoon because most stuff he eats doesn't really need a spoon. But, since he loves the fruit cups, there is a picture of him feeding himself today:) Also, we played with the Noah's Ark animals. I asked for 2 elephants and....I got 2 elephants! I asked for 2 camels and I got...two `mammals' (as he calls them). We went through each one and he got them all.

Once he got a pair, he made them kiss...

Here is he saying `happy', one of his new fav. words

He is still very congested (lungs). Last night, he was up with us from 9-11pm. I hope he gets better soon...its tough when there is not much you can do for them.
Sitting on the musical stool, banging on the wall. Interesting how grandma got him all loud, musical toys for Christmas:)

Boring Wednesday Night Post

-Kai has a nasty cold. Very congested. Last night he fell asleep in my arms while Gary was getting dinner ready (5pm). He slept all the way through til 7am! The first few nights, he slept terribly but since we started using the humidifier, it has gotten much better. New words of the day; applesauce, nanny (janny), doug, han (he LOVES washing his hands)
-I'm hoping to have daycare figured out by the end of this week.
-Gary is basketball free from Friday til Sunday!!! Woohoo!!
-School is going well...I like working. I like being home. Some days I wish I was in the other place but for now, going well. Not sure if we could do it (financially) if I wasn't working. I don't know where we could cut costs....oh well, don't need to worry about it now.

Lynette and Bryan Brandsma

What a beautiful bride (and I guess handsome groom too!). Phew, I'm exhausted. Here are some pictures that I took at the wedding. It was hard beccause I was the maid of honour and couldn't take any pictures during the ceremony or any other time! Gary was busy videotaping so here are a few of the pics that I got. By the way, Kai was at grandma's from Friday til Sunday! He had a great time and he seriously looked different to me when we picked him up. So glad to have him home!
So, here is the beautiful dress..
