Why I Watch the Bachelor

My name is Louise and I watch the Bachelor.  Judge not, friends! I know, I know, it's not quality television, I get that, but let me tell you why I watch:

1.  Social time.  My friend Leah (sorry Leah, calling you out!) and I have watched a few seasons together.  It's a chance for us to get caught up on each other's lives and watch some light TV along with it.  If we miss some of the conversations it's no big deal because usually they're all along the same lines ("Why did I get a group date?" "I can see myself falling in love with him." "I need more one-on-one time" and "You look gorgeous.") I don't think I could watch it without a friend – I need to converse throughout, at the appropriate times, of course! Oh, and she has misophonia just like me so we snack accordingly.

{Leah, act natural!  Gary's taking a picture and I'm going to post it on my blog.}

2. Giving commentary on the dates, outfits and personalities.  We check out their outfits for the various dates and ceremonies and decide what we like and what we'd wear.  It's fun to see the dates they go on and I can tell you that I would not go bungee jumping but I most definitely would go in a helicopter.  By the way, please tell me they actually eat their food?!  I'd be all over it.

3.  It's entertaining.  I don't find it entertaining when girls are devastated or they feel like their worth comes from receiving someone else's love but I do enjoy some good bloopers and just the social psychology of all those girls in one house.

{I chose Caila for Ben...she seems real and confident and fun!}

4.  It has very little to do with being a mom.  Okay, so sometimes there are single moms on the show, but for the most part, there is no talk of disciplining kids or potty training or laundry or the usual things that take up the majority of my day.  I can (mostly) escape the schedules and concerns and just consider whether I could wear heels on a horse-riding date and how short I'd want my shorts would be.

5.  Sean and Catherine.  Their season was my favourite. They knew who they were, they were open to possibilities, they were themselves, and I appreciate their priorities.  They are now married with a baby on the way.

Do you watch or do you have a different guilty pleasure?

Love,
Louise

  2. I don't think I've ever watched an entire season, but I do watch an epidsode here or there when I have nothing else to do. I also love the mindless entertainment, and I don't think I could go bungee jumping ever, except maybe if I was on the amazing race . I'd jump out of a plane before bungee jumping . Does Gary get to watch too?:)
