Holiday Entertaining Within Budget

I grew up flipping through all of the flyers with my mom on Saturday mornings; she's the one who taught me how to budget and look for bargains. Although this was back in 1989, I still love finding the best deals!

Flipp, a free app on your mobile devices, is a digital flyer program that allows you to search local stores for the best deals and clip items to your grocery list. You can also search a particular item and find where it is on sale.  I often check out Costco's flyer for the deals of the week!

.
On Sunday we hosted a party with many little kids and decorated sugar cookies; I searched butter, sugar, and milk beforehand to find where they were on sale.  The one downside is that regular prices don't appear when you search an item, just sale ones, so it's hard to compare between stores.

We also needed some savoury appetizers for all our adult friends and I could have made some but, well, four kids.  I've been craving meatballs so I just searched it and there they were on sale at Independent Grocer.

How do YOU shop and save for holiday entertaining?

In order to help you with your holiday budget, I'm giving away a $50 Visa card from Flipp along with a blue Flipp tote! Just enter the Rafflecopter below. {Canadians Only}

    I love the Flipp app. I use it all the time, it's so easy to find out where things are on sale. Also, we don't get all the flyers at home so it is easy to look them up on Flipp.

    What a wonderful idea!!! I always love checking the flyers when they arrive on Wednesday's to see where I can get the best deal, but often find I'm looking at online
    flyers as well once we've tossed the flyers into the recycling. Great app idea ,

    I always look thru flyers and make note of the sale prices of items I need. Then I price match at superstore so I'm not running around to different stores for on sale items.

    So I need to check Flipp out! Since having multiple kids I've really slacked on deal finding and stick to basics and Costco! I make almost everything from scratch, so that helps. I'm thinking being more budget conscious should be a goal for the new year 😃

  18. I'm horrible at budgeting. I know what's too expensive to buy but don't price compare to find the cheapest items. I only have 2 grocery stores locally and not too keen on driving all around to find the best price.

    If I know what's coming up I will shop early when the items are on sale. I do a meal plan to figure out what I need and what I already have on hand so that I don't overbuy items. But I like to price match and figure out how much food I'm getting for that price because sometimes just because it's on sale doesn't make it the best bang for my buck!
