Thankful Thursday

Time to practice gratitude, folks.  This week I am thankful for:

1. Free fun family activities.  I was walking our Little One through the park and came across a program by the City of Surrey for planting trees.  I called Gary to come with the kids and we planted a tree and enjoyed hot dogs and pop!  I was really surprised the kids were into it but it went so smoothly.

2. Our trampoline.  It was a huge investment but we've been so happy with it!

3.  Date night!  My sister and I used to swap babysitting nights but haven't been able to do so for the past year due to difficulty putting our four kids to bed.  On Saturday afternoon we just had three kids and my sister asked if we wanted a date night! Yes, please.  So nice to have free babysitting.

4.  Dinner out.  We went to the Trading Post Brewing Taphouse & Eatery.  I'm pretty picky where we go out to eat because Gary is such a good cook.  We had the duck tacos and short rib poutine.  For dessert we had the Chocolate Stout Cake.  I enjoyed my first flight of beer (four different ones to try).  The food was good but overpriced (I love poutine!) Overall, I give it a 7/10.  Glad we went but next time we'll try a different place.

5.  Pumpkin Patch season!  We had a great time at Willow View Farms this weekend.

6.  Kai Bear.  He is pretty responsible and helpful and I hope will be a great protector of his little brother and sister. Really hope that tooth comes in because otherwise we're paying some big $ for an expander in a few months...

7. Gary being such a great dad.  He connects with each of our kids differently according to their unique needs.  He's a catch!

8. My tribes.  I have supports in places that I need it–this is huge.  I don't know how I would do life without it.  Whether it's my family, sisters, coffee group, mom friends, non-mom friends, colleagues, church friends, foster parent groups, etc. there is always someone I can turn to for whatever comes up.

9.  Weekend away.  I am going to the Foster Parent Association AGM and Conference in Nanaimo. Normally I wouldn't go (missing work, finding childcare, and the cost involved) but I won the registration fee and had the ferry travel covered so...off I go! I don't know anyone else going and if it ends up not being ideal for me...well, I can just go exploring :)

10.  Speaking about fostering.  I was a guest speaker in a Family Studies class talking about our story in regards to fostering and I love that students are learning about it at a young age.  I think Gary and I were so afraid of the idea of fostering because we really had no idea of what the reality was.

All right!  Thanks for reading.  I hope you are having a good week and I'd love to hear something you are thankful for today.

Love,
Louise
