Run With Me!

I've always been a runner.  I've never been a `good' runner in regards to great times but it is something I have done for years.  I used to run cross country in high school, and before I had kids, I did three half marathons and frequent 10 km races.  After 3 pregnancies (and years of sleep deprivation), and about 2 years total of dealing with an autoimmune disease (Graves),  I feel like my body has the energy and desire to run again.  My plan right now it to stick to the 5 km runs as it is not hard on my body and the training required is realistic while maintaining balance in my life.

I have been running in the MEC Race Series.  I love it because it's local (Langley), affordable ($15), smaller in numbers, and every 2-3 months.   The next one is in Fort Langley on June 21st.  Have you ever wanted to run in a 5 km race?  Have you done it in the past and are ready to get back into it?  Join!

If you're looking for a good program, I have used the couch to 5 km before and there are apps for it too.  It's a combination of running and walking until you are able to run the whole 5 km's. They also have numerous programs if you are wanting to train for a 10 km run.

Here are some friends that have been in the last two runs....

{Estelle ran her first 5 km race and rocked it!}

{Tamara ran the 5 km race at Williams Park with her sweetest little family cheering her on!  Great work, Tamara!}

{Frances did the 5 km in the first of the series and then got a personal best in the 10 km for the second one!}

So the question is: Will you sign up?   If you currently run and use a program, I'd love to hear about it!

Love,
Louise

  2. I used to run a lot before I had Micah (probably 30kms per week). I have run only a handful of times this year....longest and last run was 8km a few weeks ago. I should maybe sign up for a 10k to motivate myself. Trouble is finding time to run when hubby is not around and we have no family in town. :(. The excuse would be good for me though!

    1. Good job on the 8km, Marsalie! I wonder if the MEC Vancouver Race Series would have something close to you? Signing up always keeps me motivated!

    2. Yes, the series has runs very close to us too! I was just looking at them in the weekend. Thanks for the encouragement! Positive peer pressure is always a good thing. :). I am impressed with your health progress this year. An inspiration, for sure!

  3. I love this post! You're doing the fort-to-fort for the 5km in fort langley right?! Love it. I did the 10km there last fall with Run Like A Girl (https://www.facebook.com/runlikeagirlBC?fref=ts&ref=br_tf).

    I really need to look into doing these MEC runs, so local and good motivation to get out there!

    1. Yes Lauren, next one is the fort to fort! I'm so tempted to sign up for the 10km because it's months away but I want to keep it fun and not put too much pressure on myself. Maybe the one after that..... :)

    2. currently...I'm averaging around 27 minutes. I'd like that to be back to somewhere in the 25-26 minute mark though. I need to work on my strength training so I can get faster again.

    3. That sounds awesome to me! I hear you on the strength training, I have been slacking in any other exercise other than running 3X a week....oh well, slow and steady! I'll get there. Good job! Must be tricky with working so much to fit it all in....hopefully one day I can say 27 minutes :)
