Fruit Fly Extravaganza

On Thursday afternoon we brought a large load of bottles to the depot.  It was necessary because the fruit flies have come out now and our yard was full of them.  While driving to the depot we had  all of the windows down to avoid being attacked by all of them. So gross!

We were at the depot for ONE HOUR.  ONE PARENT with THREE KIDS in a BOTTLE DEPOT for ONE HOUR.  Oh my.  What did they do? Found ants.  Bugged each other.  Admired other people's mass amounts of bottles.  Bugged each other.  Tried to get free food from the vending machine.  Bugged each other.   Read encyclopedias.  Yup, there was a set of encyclopedias there.

Our Disneyland fund is now at $121.96.  We have a loooooong ways to go and we've worked pretty hard collecting to get to this point!  Our tentative plan is to go to Disneyland next summer and to road trip it, camping along the way, and also visiting the Grand Canyon.   I'm not a big Disneyland person, but I know that Koen and Nya will love it.  Kai would rather travel to a country like Peru, and so would I, but you know, the whole money thing comes into play.

If we have a foster child in our family at that time, we would need approval from the parents and social worker for them to come with us.  Depending on the dynamics/needs of our family at that time (maybe just going grocery shopping with the combination of the 4 kids will be wild enough), or if the child was unable to come, we would just postpone our trip until the following year which really isn't a big deal and would just give us more time to collect bottles :)

Our kids are great collectors and see bottles everywhere.  They love the process and I think it's kind of fun too.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  We have some fun things planned this weekend so I look forward to sharing that with you.

Love,
Louise

  2. Apple Cider Vinegar and some dish soap in a bowl, saran wrap and holes (no holes near the edge). They drown immediately. Good luck!

  3. eek...gross fruit flies! if you had a foster child, and if they were unable to leave with you on a trip, would you not be able to put them in respite while you went? Not ideal, but it could work?
