Years ago we visited Vij's in Vancouver and it has remained one of our top 3 restaurant experiences. Amazing Indian food. We bought two of Vikram Vij's cookbooks and love the recipes in there. Well, when I found out that he was opening a restaurant in South Surrey, we were super excited. My Shanti is at Morgan Crossing and just opened this month.
They don't take reservations so we arrived a few minutes before opening at 5 pm and were one of the first people in. Phew! It fills up quickly so I would recommend going right at 5 pm if you don't want to wait.
{Isn't the ceiling fun?}
Some Tapioca Crisps with Garam Masala spice were brought to the table and then Gary and I ordered our meals.
We started with Wild Boar Kebabs and Gary had some Shrimp Ceviche. Both pretty good. I loved the raspberry chutney with the wild boar. I've never had that before.
{Chhatra Sagar's Wild Boar Kebabs $13.50}
{Peruvian/Indian Shrimp & Local Fish Ceriche $3.25}
Then our meals came and in great time too. Gary had the Goat Curry. It was spicy to me so he knew he wouldn't have to share. He said it wasn't `break out into a sweat' spicy but it was just right.
{Banglore's Goat Curry $24.00}
{Awhadi 1/2 Chicken Korma $23.00}
{Naan bread $2.25}
Let me know if you have tried it or when you do! I would love to know what you think.
Love, Louise
Yah I almost ordered the 1/2 Chicken Korma but when I found out it was all on the bones I changed my order (I really hate eating meat off the bone it grosses me out) The lamb dish is also a big bone with meat. Did you find the wild boar sausage spicy? Also did you order any drinks?
ReplyDeleteoooh, so cool! I have driven past that place a few times, dying to know what it was! I love the sequins shimmering in the wind! Thanks for the recommendation! I'll have to see if I can go there on a date night too! :)
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about that obnoxiously shiny restaurant :) Didn't realize he was a well known chef!
ReplyDeleteSO cool!! This looks like a fun date :) unique food!
ReplyDeleteI drove by this place a few weeks ago and wondered what it was, the building is so sparkly!! I'll have to try it out!
ReplyDeleteI'm so intrigued about this! I've never been to vij's or this restaurant - it's now on my "list of restaurants to try" :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh you sure don't find these kind of places in a small town...we have fast food chains, that's about it. So usually, if we go out - I get a big fat chicken burger, sweet potato fries and a peach sangria. Sometimes I think our little town has completely destroyed my sense of taste...(that, and butchering our own animals - steaks just aren't a special thing anymore, and are usually found at the bottom of the freezer...!!) Thanks for letting me enjoy such beautiful food via your pictures ;)
ReplyDeleteMaria-did not find the sausages spicy at all. And we didn't get drinks. I actually didn't check out the drink menu but that's just because I'm a tad frugal :)
ReplyDeleteShannon-there are many vegetarian options, I wonder what you'd think of it!
Everyone-yes, the shiny exterior is a conversation piece!
Adrienne-peach sangria sound yummy and so do the steaks!
