Thankful Thursday

Time to practice some more gratitude.  This week I am thankful for:

1. Night's like this!  A good old solid sleep. Ahhhhh......

2.  A Little Light.  This is a growing group of Christian women in social media and I am on the panel this Friday!  We'll be talking about how we remain true to who we are and what we believe in while navigating this wild online world. I look forward to meeting some great women and hearing what they have to say.  Looking forward to saying "hello" my nerdy friend Shawna who I have yet to meet in real life!

3. Being able to go to Kai's track meet.  I'm glad that I get to go, that Nya was okay with the 2.5 hours she spent there, that I only missed one event while running to an appointment, and that Gary's parents could come watch him too.  I'm glad that he handled each event well...those big feelings can be tricky when they show up! Sometimes I question whether it's best for me to be home but when I can go to events like this, I really think so.  I totally get how this is not the case for everyone but I'm glad that I'm content doing what I'm doing.  Besides, sitting in my pj's at 8 am drinking a coffee is pretty incredible!

4.  Making a difference.  I love, love, loooooooooooooooooove when people say "Hey, we went to this park because you recommended it and loved it!" "Hey, I enjoyed that book you suggested!" "I wore a bikini because of your post!" "I realized my thyroid was off because of your blog!" Okay, maybe not everyone speaks in exclamation marks but that's how it feels.  So thank you for any feedback you have given. I make very little by having ads on this blog and invest quite a bit of time into it. Why do I invest? I want it to be a place where we can learn from each other (I know, sounds so cheesy) and I do want a documentation of sorts for my kids.

5.  Nya's birthday.  I don't love party planning but I really enjoy seeing my kids being celebrated. Happy that we're done with birthdays until August!

6. Local parks.  We enjoy this one because it has a paved loop to bike on.
Nya: When are the boys coming home?
 Me: Four hours.
Nya: I'll bike for four hours
{Does a 30 second ride}
Nya: Now how much time til the boys come home?

7.  Options. In order for our lives to continue as we are used to I need to make about $1,000 a month (I know, it's taboo to talk about money right? Like actual numbers?) This is the money that goes towards to the kid's tuition and our travel fund.  I have options on how to make this money and usually use a combination of being a foster mom, substitute teaching, and/or photography to do so.  Could I work more? If I wanted to.  Do I want to? Not right now.  Will I ever be a full-time teacher again? Never say never but I would say it's highly unlikely!

8.  Great books to read! So much to learn.  I'm going to share a review of the The Explosive Child soon because it's important and helpful. I've tried it out this week on one of our kids and we had a successful transition with it...we'll see if it continues! Baby steps.

9. Our trampoline.  It's on it's last season and has been so handy in our small backyard.  The pads are held together with duct tape and we don't let anyone outside of our family on it so it's time to replace it–we're thinking of getting a Springfree one and will be checking it out next week.  They have an 8' one that would fit in our yard :)

10. Gary being home safe and sound!  Gary was doing the Powell River Chain (canoe and portage) last week with his class. There's always an adjustment period when he comes home.  I'm tired of parenting and he's tired from his trip and we both want a break...all worked out and all good. We've done this a time or two.

So, there are a few things to be thankful for this week! What about you? What are you thankful for today?

Love,
Louise

  1. I didn't know you had a Springfree! Did you buy it brand new. I'm curious what you will want to do in the coming years! And yes, once you have the energy/time to read, it's pretty awesome!
