1. Kai had 3 pieces of french toast for lunch and 5 minutes later said that he was hungry for a snack. I've got a house full of big eaters.
2. I think I have a flu that does not include coughing or vomiting. Every muscle is so sore, it even hurts to roll my eyes. I feel like my bones are shaking. It does not help that I am not sleeping more than 4 hours in a row. Grrrrr. I lost ANOTHER pound last night which puts me at 2lbs away from my weight when I was 18-26 years old. I have never felt this kind of sick before. At least I'm not nauseous. I am not even going for walks these days, it would destroy me.
3. We had 3 photo shoots this weekend...BUSY!!! Check em out here. I hope I'm better by next Saturday when we have another wedding.
4. Kai starts preschool on Thursday and I am soooo excited for him, I know he will love it. He is not nervous about it at all and is looking forward to it.
5. Kai says we need to buy a quieter vacuum so he can hear when he is watching `his' tv. Makes it sound like I'm always vacuuming and he's always watching tv.
6. After watching `Cake Boss' last night, I had to make a cake today. So good.
7. Today Kai said that daddy was his favourite. This made me a little sad because he's always been a momma's boy. However, when I asked him why, he said it was because daddy spins him. If that's what it takes, I can do it:)
8. Trying to find daycare for Kai and Koen for December-June. Can you say stressful??? Does anyone know of anyone fabulous in the Clayton Heights area? Do I even attempt to find someone via craigslist? Seems so sketchy to me.
9. I have Kai signed up for swimming lessons next week. I'm pretty sure he'll fail because there's no way he'll submerge his head. Oh well, it will still be fun. Maybe I can practice with him at home by having him put his head in a bowl of water:)
10. One more kid to go to bed and I'm gonna lay on the couch and have some cake. Don't sound sick do I? You should see me. Not pretty.
11. Gary made carrot buns...very good!

Dada!
*This blog was posted Sunday*

Koen has started to make a lot more sounds and in his repertoire is `dada'! Soooo cute. He doesn't know what he is saying but he knows it makes us smile:) When I try to get him to say `mama', he just says, `mmmmm'.

(Kai telling Koen which direction to go...I just like it because it shows how funny it looks when he puts on his own undies and pants)
Koen is being a bit of a pain in the butt going to bed now, we just let him cry for about 20 minutes. He is still feeding twice in the night which is crazy to me since he eats so much all day long!

(Kai trying to be like a baby...the other day I caught him sucking on the computer cord trying to be like Koen)
Yesterday Kai said, `Mommy, this bed is stressing me out!'. Oh boy, kids are sponges. I don't know when I've said this lately because being at home is not stressful at all. Teaching is. Home can be tiring and sometimes boring, but not stressful.

We did our first torrential down pour wedding yesterday (Saturday) up at Grouse Mountain. I'd say 90% of the pictures are indoor and the rest are basically right up against the building. It was way too wild out to even use umbrellas. I think we managed to get some good photos. I also had a maternity shoot last night which went well.

I love this stage...8 months old is a lot of fun!

I've had a lot muscle and back pain, hot flashes, rapid heart rate, along with more weight loss. Of course with my genes, I let my mind think that something is really wrong with me. Is it normal to lose weight without trying? I lost another pound in the last day. I've never lost weight like that in my life. And nope, not pregnant:) I just feel like I'm running on empty which is probably due to my lack of sleep and inability to just relax. I don't feel healthy, my body feels very blah. And yes, I am eating properly and exercising regularly. Oh well, maybe I'll have a good night sleep and all will be well.

(Kai at a very weird angle...)
Today I really realized how exhausting it is having a 3 year old. He is physically easy to take care of, but mentally...phew. A billion `why?' questions need to be answered daily and hourly disciplinary measures are taken. Yes, hourly. He loves to hurt his little brother by pushing him to the ground or driving cars on his head. I feel like we have a lot of `Full House' discussions, you know, the last 5 minutes of the show where the cheesy music comes on? We talk about how we have to share and how we have to love eachother etc. Several times he has said to me `I don't love Koen' which leads into a long talk about how God made everyone and we need to love everyone. Yes, even strangers. I look forward to the day where they will be little buddies.
Okay, time to fold some laundry with Gary and relax:)

Art and Pregnancy
Yay, I can finally blog about who's pregnant! Well, it's not me, but my middle sister Jantina is! She is about 13 weeks pregnant right now and is due about 4 days after my little sister, Trisha's, wedding. I'm excited for a little niece or nephew...I think I'm hoping for a boy as so far I just have 2 nieces on my side.

(Me and Jan...Jan is my, um, `unique and quirky' sister.)
Tonight I went to the pub with my sisters for dinner. Yummy. We are 5 very opinionated `strong' women which makes for some interesting conversation. Although, I have to say that Trisha is maybe a little `softer' than the rest of us:)

(Me and Jackie....Jackie and Jantina are both nurses)
And now for some artsy stuff from Kai. He has no interest in writing or colouring or anything of the sort but I'm still trying once in a while:)

Random:
I've lost 5lbs in 2 weeks without trying...strange, may have to buy new clothes
We have a wedding shoot this weekend and its supposed to rain
Our next door neighbours had their house broken into while they were sleeping...freaks me out
Really, nothing exciting. Bon nuit.

8 Months Old
First off, congratulations to our friends Andrew and Dana on the birth of their third child, 9lb 10oz baby boy, Joshua. Dana had the birth she always dreamed of and prayed for; a water birth at home. My ideal birth would also be a water birth, but in the hospital. Won't be happening but ya, would be cool. I don't many details yet but it sounds like all are well. There are some cool shots on Andrew's photography blog of the birth.

Now to my baby! Koen is now 8 months old. He weighs 21 lbs 5oz. This month he has learned to pull up on anything (like even a wall!) and he can stand for about 30 seconds by himself. He can walk pushing things but has no interest in doing it by himself. He is starting to make some new sounds and has just started saying` ssssss' and we will do it back and forth. He thinks he's the smartest thing ever:)
Sleeping wise, he still has naps that are too short but he is always in bed by 8pm now. Pick up put down works...it maybe took 3 days!!! I do feed him at about 11pm and then I send Gary in there when he wakes at about 3am to put him back down (he'll be standing there in his crib holding on to nothing!). He's up for the day by 7am.

I thought I was seconds away from a nice picture of the boys playing cars together...

until kai drove his truck into Koen's face...on purpose (although he always says, `I didn't mean to!').
His favourite activity is to try to get ahold of whatever Kai has (most likely a car or truck) or what we have (food, computer,or remote). He loves bathtime and doing anything outside.

Kai has gotten sooo much better with sharing (except for in the picture below), I'm very proud of him.

(Mommy, the koke-inator is going to suck on all my cars!) Yes, I did say koke-inator.
Koen is so content and I think a lot of it is that he can get to wherever he wants to go. He is very easy going and is happy with anyone and everyone. His only iffy time is from about 7-8pm where mommy is best. Koen is def. not a momma's boy like Kai was. He's an `anyone is my best friend' kind of guy. I wonder if that will change? I kind of like that I'm #1 in Kai's life....

Koen has enjoyed eating almost everything that we have given him, except for mangoes. He really loved the hamburger soup that I made and I just blended it up a bit. I love that he can feed himself and I think he is very good at it...he clears his tray very quickly:) He can eat a whole slice of bread (broken up) in just a few minutes.
I love this little guy sooo much and I don't want him to grow old too fast. It seems like the older they get, the faster it goes! I love this stage and look forward to the walking and the talking that is to come. So thankful for this little guy in my life.
Both of my boys have Gary's green eyes and brown hair. Koen's hair might be a bit lighter, we will see.

This isn't the right way to end this `month 8' post, but, our house is so full of boy-ness. Every day, there seems to be more and more. All we talk about are trucks, cars, diggers, airplanes, cars, cars, cars. How many times a day do I have to say, `Don't put the wagon on your brothers head' or `Don't drive your cars on your brothers face' etc. I have to walk around bracing myself to be jumped on or ran into. Good thing I'm not a girly girl but boy, I think I would really like a daughter. Putting her in dresses, pony tails in her hair, nail polish on her nails, speaking to eachother calmly and nicely......Love my boys more than I ever imagined but ya, I think a daughter would be the perfect addition to this home:) Hopefully one day! Watch me have twin boys.

(Kai still loves eating carrots all day long)

Nieces
Today my nieces came over to play. It's amazing how fast the morning goes when the kids are busy playing!

I made some homemade cheese buns for us all for lunch but burnt my finger on the oven...burns hurt for soooo long. GRRRR. Good buns though!

Reading one of Kai's favourite books, `Chameleon's Colours'. It's a gooder.
Kai playing `Guess Who'...
Kai: Does your person eat hot dogs?
Kai complaining about his drink...
Kai: This drink tastes like dying water.
My friend is currently in labour. So excited for her...the waiting is the hardest part!!

Diggers and Ribs
Koen is such a happy little boy. He just smiles all the time. I left him in the church nursery and he didn't care that I dropped him off there. He played happily the whole time, even though he missed his morning nap. We found out he can climb stairs as I found him on the third step. He also likes walking by pushing the wagon around. We no longer have to pick up put down...we just put him down and to sleep he goes. Yippee! Just this week he has learned to feed himself well which is sooo much easier! Just put down some chunks of bread, banana, chicken and away he goes.

(Isn't he just too adorable???? Ah, so in love with this little guy!!!)
Every time I sweat too much (football or running in the midday sun), I get such a bad headache which makes me feel sick for 2 days. I really tried to stay super hydrated yesterday but failed miserably and I just feel crappy again today. Wish I could just have an IV in overnight:) Next time I will drink twice as much water, before, during and after. Oh ya, but I forgot to say that we had our first football game yesterday! We were down, then we tied it, then they got another touchdown and then with about 3 minutes left, they decided not to rush me and I ran in a touchdown. We were down by just one point. I decided to go for the 2 point convert and it was completed! Woohoo, won by just one point. Great start. We have 4 women on our team that have had babies this year and all 4 are breastfeeding which means we can't be away from our kiddos for too long:)

Kai is 100% stereotypical boy. Sleeps with his diggers, cars, trucks etc. I've had to learn a lot about construction machines.
Me: Kai, look at that tractor!
Kai: Mommy, that's not a tractor, it's a backhoe.
OR
Me: Kai, look at the roller on that machine!
Kai: Mommy, that's a compaction wheel.
Um, okay.
He loves to learn about processes and parts to machinery or trucks.
I had a bad dream about Kai's first day of preschool. I got kicked out of the class for trying to help and Kai got asked to never return because of his inability to sit still:)
Gary is making braised short ribs from Vij's cookbook. If you've eaten at Vij's, you know how awesome tonight's dinner will be. If you've never eaten there and you want an amazing meal, go there! Def. in my top 5 of best restaurants I've ever eaten at. Rumour is, Gary is making banana cream pie for dessert (my fav.). What an awesome husband. I know.

Hiking Date
On Thursday morning, Gary and I got out for a hike. Yippee!!! I am feeling fabulous as I have somehow managed to get within 4 pounds of my pre-Kai/marriage weight (all together I have lost 16.5 lbs since Koen was 2 months old)! I find that just losing those 16 pounds allows me to move so much better and all my old clothes fit wonderfully. Anyway, so we did a `hike' around Mike Lake at Golden Ears Park. It's really just a 30 minute walk (without kids!) around a lake. I wanted to work up a sweat so we then did another trail called `Incline Trail' which was just that. Got a nice sweat going and it felt good!

We live in such a beautiful province. I have travelled all over Canada and the US and I would say that nothing beats BC. Maybe because it's home, but seriously, it's beauty is unmatched.

Gary and I had lots of time to just talk together and even hold hands. It's been a while since we've walked and not had to answer a billion questions from our wonderful 3 year old super question asker. Gary heads back to work on Monday....we'll see how it goes!

Rough and Tough
Gary is gone for the day helping his brother paint. It's a good trial run to see how it'll be when he goes back to work. I have to say that there is something nice about getting back into routine ....going to the park, making dinner, cleaning the house etc. I know I'm spoiled having a husband at home for 2 months, and one that can cook too:)

Koen has been going to bed at 7:30pm each night. This is awesome. The only problem is that he wakes up at least 3 times a night. I feed him at about 10:30pm and then when he wakes at 2am, I send Gary in there to put him back to sleep. Then, I feed him at about 5am and he sleeps til 8am. Gary is so ready to just let him cry at night and not have me go in there and feed him....I'm thinking that I'll wait until he's 9 months old and then I might stop feeding him at night (unless he really needs it of course!). I would say that in the past week or so, those feeds seem to be just more comfort to him than need. I wish he sucked his thumb like his brother did!!!

We bought a black leather love seat last night, love it!! It makes the area look more grown up and it is soooo comfy! As you can see in the pictures, Koen follows Kai all over the place. Kai is pretty good with him but we def. have to watch him when he decided to give Koen a `squishy super hug'. I don't think he has the best intentions then:)
Kai loves playing `Guess Who?', running around outside, and still, helping out in the kitchen. I'm a little concerned about Kai's desire to be rough and tough. I understand that for some kids, it's just in them. Kai would love to wrestle and tackle every single person he meets. He usually just tackles bigger kids, but still, they don't always want it! He does get a lot of his energy out throughout the day but he needs to get that desire to be aggressive out. He will come up to me and tell me he wants to hit something and be rough. I don't want to suppress it and make him be gentle all the time because it's just part of who he is. He does get to wrestle with Gary each night but I don't know what else to do. It is very opposite to Gary or I so maybe its just the 3 year old stage? Maybe a punching bag? Sign him up for karate or something? Does this stage ever pass? Any tips? He loves it when we punch the air doing the `30 Day Shred' DVD:)

Football has started again which is exciting. We have our first game on Saturday and I'm nervous about it already. I also got to go see `The Time Traveller's Wife' with Maria VB and it made me cry. I love when a movie makes me cry. If you haven't read the book, do it. I'm currently reading `The Botany of Desire' which I'm really enjoying so far. Gary and I are planning on doing a hike tomorrow morning sans kiddos, we'll see how that goes!
So strange that school is starting for Gary next week and I won't be returning until December. I have to admit I am not eager to return. The idea that I will be teaching Chemistry is not the most enticing:) I'm hoping that by November I will be so ready to get out of the house to do something different....
Reminder..any tips for boys who need to get their aggression out?

Standing On His Own
Ignore my very crazy voice and insane laugh but ya, here's Koen's trick for the day. He's been doing it all day long. I'm thinking that he'll be walking by the time he's 9 months old!
