Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

Hello! These weeks are flying by and now that I'm in summer mode (my kids have been off for a week now!) I've lost track of which day it is, hence, a late Thankful Thursday post. I hope you can find something to be grateful for today. Here is mine..

Today I am thankful for:

1. We got a hot tub. We needed something that fit in a 7' wide space. I found this Plug and Play on sale at Costco (this type plugs into a regular 15 amp outlet). It heats up slower but is also quite energy efficient. Thankful that it's in and now we just need to figure out how to balance all the chemicals so that the water stays pretty and blue.

2. Summer Reading Program. We will go to the library each Saturday after we fill in our row of weekly reading and try to win prizes. Each day Koen will spend his 20 minutes reading to Nya.

3. Lots of time at home. I don't love it but my kids (especially Koen) need it. Thankfully there are a lot of things to do at home!

4. Hockey. I had my last playoff game this week. There is one more round but we will be on holidays. I'm looking forward to playing in September again as it is a priority for me and a highlight of my week.

5. Silver finish for Kai. It's the furthest he's gone in the playoffs and although he was very disappointed to not make the provincials, I was very proud of him after coming back from 3 weeks away with an ankle injury. I think next year he will be pretty awesome even though he will be one of the younger ones in the division (they do two age groups together so he will be with 12 and 13 year olds).

6. A good book. If you need to shed some tears, this was a good one. You may especially love it if you enjoy classical music.

7. Being productive. One of the hardest things for me having a baby around is that it is difficult to get anything done unless it's in her 1.5 hour nap time. Thankfully Gary is now home so we are getting stuff done! We spent the past week organizing and purging the garage, the toys, and the baby's closet which was full of clothes for potential foster kiddos from ages 2-4 years of age. Somehow we had a lot of clothes in there! I ended up donating 4 garbage bags, giving 3 boxes to foster parents, giving 3 boxes to the biological families of our foster kiddos and then having Once Upon a Child buy two bins worth! We also made two trips to the dump, one big one to the thrift store and one to the recycling depot. Exhale. Only one major closet left: the camping/outdoor closet.

8. E-books. I'm reading the third book in a series called Dust by Hugh Howey. I take it out from the library and just read it on my phone (I have a 7+). The books are long (like 600-850 pages) but I can pull it out at any appointment and any time.

9. Kai helping out more. We're really increasing the responsibilities of the kids this summer. More chores, more cooking etc. This is because they are getting older and because I'm going back to work.

10. Going to Indigenous Peoples Day at Holland Park. I'll be honest that my knowledge of Indigenous Peoples is not great but I have been learning. This is a great little video which explains the difference between Aboriginal, First Nations, Metis and Indigenous.

I hope you are having a great week and have fun celebrating Canada this weekend! What are YOU doing to celebrate?

Love,
Louise
