In case you are new here, life has been a bit stressful these days. We have three bio kids and have added two foster children as an emergency placement. What was supposed to be two weeks turned into a lot more and we're not sure when a long term home will be found although there is a chance it will be by the beginning of June. I'm hopeful a plan is in place soon because the unknown is hard for me as are the current needs in this family. I didn't want to write a "Thankful Thursday" because I am feeling far from thankful which tells me that I need to do this. Ha. So here is my reluctant post.
This week I am thankful for:
1. Spring flowers. Yes, they are pretty to look at but now it keeps the kids busy as there are just so many to pick.
2. Koen's Art Show. Koen did a report and drrawing of an Oregon Spotted Frog. He was so proud of his project pointing out all the colours he included and all the drafts to get the leg positioning just right. He does not like writing or drawing so I was so surprised to see how happy he was about it all–it was probably very hard for him to do it all.
3. Baked goods. I have been so blessed by meals and clothes for the kids over the past 7 weeks. My friend Rachel sent some food and baking along with her sister (who babysat!). In the package were cinnamon buns which were the perfect treat to eat on May 7th which was the anniversary of my mom's passing. My mom made cinnamon buns frequently so I had my moment.
4. Monday's ballet class. Nya enjoys the class (the dancing and friends) and I have relief during that time so it is the most relaxing 45 minutes of my day.
5. Living close to the beach. It's such an easy place for the kids to explore and it's hard to be a stress-case when you are breathing in the fresh air on a sunny day.
6. Family time. We had a few hours on Saturday and guess what the kids had for dinner? Ice cream. Yes, that was a first. Apparently quality family time=eat whatever you want! (We did have fruits and veggies once we got home).
7. These three. I know, always thankful for them but how could I not be. Thankful for their love for each other and their unique personalities.
8. Fun at Redwood Park. This park is known to have fairy houses but this one was incredible; so many intricate details.
9. Brotherly love. These two used to fight a lot and now because they bond over sports and are not that far apart skill-wise, they get along so well. Super thankful mama. They play hockey and soccer for hours together. Koen even gets to play soccer with the grade 5's at school each day–isn't that kind? Oh, and they don't normally look like this...crazy hair day and this was their request.
10. Summer holidays. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to road tripping and connecting as a family again. Gary and I especially have a lot of work to be done marriage-wise as this has been a very, uh, difficult season.
All right folks, I did it! What is something YOU are thankful for today?
Love,
Louise
thanks for sharing. i've been thinking and praying for you guys.
ReplyDeleteWay to keep up with your Thankful Thursday, even when you don't feel like doing it! Glad your boys have bonded over sports. When my oldest two don't have much to say to each other, they can always switch to talking about sports and the fine details of their favourite teams/players.
