What are Netflix movies or series that relate to fostering?
1. The Fosters. I watched the entire series and thought it gave a great peek into fostering. This show is also why I now call my kids "Love".
2. Hunt for the Wilderpeople. This movie "proves that there's no such thing as a bad boy, just one that needs the right amount of love and acceptance." It's a bit Home Alone-ish with silly antics and the Child Protective Services is quite unrealistic but there are some great feel-good moments in there. Besides, then you can figure out where they got that name "Wilderpeople" from.
3. Lee Daniels' Star. I watched the first episode and it really depicts fostering in a negative light but does show the struggles that many teens in foster care may have with events that have happened in their life.
4. Tallulah. This movie shows what happens when a young girl ends up taking a baby from her neglectful mother in order to protect her.
5. Switched at Birth. Okay, not a series on foster care but one that does cover some of the issues in regards to raising someone else's child and working together with the birth parents. I just love it which is why I put it in here. I'm almost done the final season so I'm slowly down to savour it. If you are into ASL then this show is for you as well!
Love,
Louise
