Thankful Thursday

Practicing gratitude time!  This week I am thankful for:

1. A hike to Lighthouse Park with women from church.  Life has been busy and sometimes it's easier to say "I just want to stay home and do nothing" but it's worth it for me to get out and move my legs and breathe in nature.

2.  My little encourager.  Each of our kids is just so unique and she is quite particular (must wear a twirly dress each day...preferably purple or pink) yet always encourages me with "You're the best mommy ever" "I love you so much" etc...I wonder when/if that will change!

3. Running shorts.  I usually wear yoga pants or carpis leggings when running but wanted something cooler for the summer.  They were super comfy to wear around the house, we'll see if they ride up when I run...totally not my favourite thing. (PS $19.99 Winners)

4.  Fruit and berry season! I love all the smoothies and fruit that we eat at this time of year!

5.  Great book recommendations.  I think I heard about this one from a workshop and my boys love reading a chapter each day.  We've discussed boredom, money management, goal settting, and work first, play later so far.  It's for ages 4-8 but I'd say maybe closer to 5-9.

6.  My endometrial ablation is done.  I have never gone under before which worried me a bit.  I have a dislocated jaw so the anesthetist recommended at the last minute that I just get a spinal (because of the breathing tube) but I was too anxious to be awake/aware for the procedure. I showed him how to open my jaw to the side and we practiced a couple of times :)  I was nervous that someone I knew would be in the operating room as it's a procedure involving my "lady parts" but no, all good. Strangers.  I cried going under because I felt anxious and then woke up an hour later crying.  They told me nicely to be quiet and then I turned into this crazy woman trying to get orientated.  What time is it? How long have I been here? How long will I be here for? Did everything go okay? Will the doctor see me? Could they get the breathing tube in okay? Etc. I'm a huge question asker normally but I went a bit overboard.  Recovery was...okay.  Lots of discomfort for four hours (think really bad period cramps/labour) but with my pain meds I feel okay now.  Just really tired still. I had the Novasure Endometrial Ablation (operative hysteroscopy) along with a D&C for my menorrhagia which is hopefully gone now.

7. Great preschool.  I love her teachers.  She has been struggling with leaving me over the past few months, whether going to preschool, Sunday School or daycare once a week.  It could be in relation to our Little One not always being with us, I'm not sure.

8. My creative Koen.  They've been watching American Ninja Warrior again so Koen set up a course in the basement.  It took several days for his stuffies to get through each round and I love watching him just spend hours playing by himself.

9.  My adventurous dad.  I love that he's always just showed us to go for what you want.  Here is he after doing a beach landing on Vargas Island (by Tofino).  Next month he is flying Kai and Annika (cousin) to Ucluelet to go fishing for the day to celebrate their 10th birthdays–is that fun or what?  My sister Maria is going along with them as I don't do very well in that small plane for very long.  Maybe I'll go when they celebrate Koen and Izzy being 10.

10.  People sharing their stories.   This week Emily shared about caring for extended family in her home.  You can read her piece, Looking After Mum, if you haven't already.  If you have a story or piece of your heart to share, I'd love for you to submit it!

I hope you are having a great week!  What is something you are thankful for today?

Love,
Louise
