Thankful Thursday

Once again plans have changed.  A sick little one meant a cancelled visit which meant trying to keep my kids healthy while taking care of a sick and whiny child while Gary worked.  We skipped the zoo and beach and instead went to the clinic with four kids and as many electronic devices that I could pack in my purse. Not my favourite start to summer.  However, I know this is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things it's just not how I wanted to spend my day yesterday. I don't like that I feel frustrated that there is just so much beyond our control right now. Obviously I really need to focus on the positives along with my venting so here we go–I'm especially excited about #10 as today is his first day home.

This week I am thankful for:

1. 15 items of clothes for the boys for $3.  I got it off Bidding Wars and it included 15 long and short sleeved shirts sized 8 and 10–perfect for the fall!  Here's just some of them.  They are all in good condition and Old Navy or The Bay.   Secondhand is how we can afford to clothe four rapidly growing kids :)

2.  Party at the park.  Surrey does a great job (I think!) of celebrating their parks and this was for the grand opening of another one.  There was bouncy castles, face painting, archery, musicians, food and more. Free fun.

3.  Blueberry picking with the kids at Krause Farms.  I think blueberries are the least messy and easiest to pick with kids involved.  It's not relaxing at all taking four kids but we all had fun. Although the waffles there are so tempting the line was long and it would've cost our family quite a bit so we went home and made our own Belgian waffles with fresh whipped cream and just-picked berries.

4.  Donuts at Krause Farms.  We all got a donut ($1.10) at Krause and the kids loved it. I did too. Kai asked for his photo to be taken and so I did!  Super rare and I really try to respect his wishes in that department.

5.  A new waterpark at a local park!  Nya loves it the most.  I almost always have her in a swim shirt and shorts so you can see just how pale she is!  Gotta get into the groove of hats, sunscreen and covering up again.

6.  Finishing the wall.  It was a pretty boring weekend because we needed to get it done for the arrival of our trampoline on Monday.  Gary worked hard and we all shoveled gravel.  It felt good to do some manual labour as I used to do a lot more.  I'm not sure that it was a great idea with my bronchitis but we got the job done.

7.  Having the trampoline delivered and set up.  The kids have loved it and use it every day for at least 2 hours.  I'm sure they'll start to use it less but the exercise they get on it is unbelievable!  The boys' favourite game is one-on-one basketball that they play together or with the neighbour boys. Nya just likes to run around inside.  They also love when I spray them with water while they're in there.  I am actually able to jump on it as well so that's fun!  The one downside is that it is in the sun during the day.

8. Antibiotics.  I ended up with bronchitis this week (after laryngitis).  It has been a rough month for me.  I've never coughed so much and spent two nights upright on the couch not sleeping.  Finally I got antibiotics and within 3 days I was feeling much better. My body is so done with being under the weather.

9Care Group.  We are part of a family group at church where we get together several times a month to talk about the sermons or do a study while the kids play. It's chaotic but that's kind of our lives right now.  We just had our wrap up and it was a lovely bbq in one of the family's backyards.  Feeling like summer!

10. Gary being home! He has been working so, so hard these last few months until about 10 PM each night (due to new curriculum).  He needs a rest so hopefully Friday is relaxing and then he's ready to photograph a wedding with me on Saturday (our last one!)

What are you thankful for today?

  1. Another great list - glad you are feeling better and hope you are all over any sicknesses for the rest of the summer. I am thankful for the Vancouver part of our family who are arriving on Saturday. All of our children and will be under one roof for a couple of days and a big extended family gathering is also scheduled. I am also thankful to live in Canada. Happy Canada Day to you and your family!

    1. Carol, I'm so excited for you that the whole family will be together–what fun that will be! Happy Canada day to you too!

  2. Happy first day of summer holidays!! Enjoy your two months of family time. Hopefully some rest and recovery for you!
