A Sweet Start To The Day {Giveaway}

Over the past year our family has changed the way we eat to reduce refined sugars in our diet.   Gary and I have each lost close to 20 lbs and feel so much better.  We try to make sure that our kids go to school each morning fueled with the right nutrients and not just a sugar high.  What does this involve?

1.  Staying Hydrated.  Most days we drink water or almond milk.   On the weekends, we love a fruit and/or veggie smoothie at breakfast time.  The kids also have their own reusable water bottles in their backpacks and in the van.

2.  Protein for breakfast.    Having protein in each meal helps to keep you feeling fuller longer.  We often have toast with peanut butter, scrambled eggs and bacon, or Greek yogurt with blueberries.

 3.Honibe Vitamins.  Our kids have always loved their chewable vitamins but I couldn't believe the amount of sugar in our old ones. The first ingredient was glucose syrup.  We have recently started taking Honibe honey gummies instead.  They have 100% Canadian honey as their main ingredient!

{`It's shaped like honeycomb!'}

 These vitamins still have glucose in them but only 50% as much as the regular brands do.  I love the texture and I think it's because it's coated in beeswax rather than sugar.  Our family's favourite flavour is orange (they also have fruit punch and natural berry).  You can learn more about them here and can purchase them at Superstore, London Drugs, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

  1. I have not been a big user of vitamin supplements over the years, but now take Vitamin D and Omega-3 Fish Oils. If I win these, I would give them to my grandson.

  4. I need to be more regular with them, but often forget. The kids love the gummy ones, but they do have way too much sugar in them. These sound great. I will have to check them out!

  5. We have vitamins periodically, but I am not good at remembering we have them. I have never thought of checking the sugar content though!

    PS I have also been cutting sugar out recently and have lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks. No book or special diet, just watching what I eat and increasing my protein. Crazy! I didn't think it would be so easy.

    1. Marsalie, way to go! Isn't it amazing? Low sugar, more protein. That is a LOT of weight to lose in 2 weeks, wow. Not sure if you're going through the sugar detox feeling but it gets better, I promise!

    We use gummies every breakfast and dinner for the girls but would love something with less sugar for their overly energetic little growing bodies:)

    1. Congratulations Heather! I would say that it is not chewy like regular gummy vitamins. It feels `fresher' and is sticky but only half as chewy, does that make sense? You only need to chew it half as much...there must be a better way to explain it :) Hope that helps a bit!
