Are you looking for a fun new adventure? Whistler, B.C. has many different options in the summer such as
ziplining,
hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, and ATVing. Most people are familiar with their
Peak 2 Peak Gondola which holds the Guinness World Record for longest and highest lift and now they have just opened up a new experience for thrill seekers:
The Peak Suspension Bridge.
|
Peak Suspension Bridge located at the very top of the mountain: Can you see it on the peak? |
In order to get to the suspension bridge, take the Whistler Village Gondola up which is about 22 minutes long. It is fully enclosed and not scary for those afraid of heights like me. Be on the look out for bears as we saw them both times we rode the gondola–even a grizzly with two cubs!
Once at the top there is the Roundhouse Lodge which I highly recommend stopping at for something to eat or a drink – can you believe the view from the Umbrella Bar at the Roundhouse Lodge?! Also at the top is the location for the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, hiking trails and the route to the Express Chair.

It is a ten minute walk down the Peak Express Traverse to the Express Chair. This gravel walkway is very inclined (63 meters elevation in 0.6 km) so if you have difficulty walking you may want to reconsider it or just be prepared to take your time. There were some hiking poles available if need be.

Walking to the Express Chair |
Once there, it is an eight minute open air chair lift ride up to the Top of the World Summit. I am nervous on chair lifts and this one seemed exceptionally high at points. It also stopped moving at one point for five minutes. I had my eyes closed for the majority of the ride but am told it was beautiful. Honestly, this 4 person chair was more terrifying than the suspension bridge itself.

End of the Express Chair |
Once surviving the Express Chair and arriving at the Top of the World Summit, the
Peak Suspension Bridge is just steps away. It is 130 metres long and goes from Whistler Peak to the West Ridge which crosses the Whistler Bowl. It will have a viewing platform on the West Ridge side upon completion.

It was quite cloudy and windy when we arrived at the top. I was still feeling the adrenaline and fear coursing through my body so I was jittery crossing the bridge; know the bridge does sway and is very high up. I power walked in each direction as quickly as I could. I was too nervous to take out my phone for photos on the bridge as it easily could have fallen out the bottom with my shaking hands.
There is a beautiful viewing area and another Inukshuk which would be incredible on a clear day. It was still breathtaking to be there right before the storm hit.
The cost is complimentary with your Peak 2 Peak pass which is $58/adult, $51/teen and $27/child (7-12) online which I believe is completely worth it. Note that you need to be at least 40" to ride to the Top of the World Summit. I would recommend dressing in layers as we were cold on the bridge and yet it was a bit stuffy in the gondola. There are
live cams where you can check the weather and view before you go.

Express chairlift to the Peak Suspension Bridge when I could open my eyes |
The Peak Chair is open 9 AM to 4 PM during the summer and until 5:30 PM on weekends. Check the
lift status before buying your tickets or heading up to make sure that the bridge and/or Peak 2 Peak Gondola if that is what you are hoping to do.
Again, I highly recommend heading up to the Top of the World Summit and experiencing the Peak Suspension Bridge when in Whistler. One of my sisters cannot do heights at all and if that is you, I would recommend just going to the top of the Whistler Gondola which is still incredibly beautiful. Don't forget to check the live cams and weather before heading up and wear your layers!
Would you enjoy an experience like this?
Love,
Louise
We were given complimentary tickets by Tourism Whistler to experience and review this for my 40th birthday. Opinions are my own.
