Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

Oh my goodness, life has been such a different kind of busy in just a "keeping the house running" kind of way aka boring stuff. Meetings, phone calls, emails, paperwork, party prepping for Koen...not my favourite stuff. I'm looking forward to routine which we will hopefully get back into in a few weeks. The first week back to school will not be my favourite with the adjustment of back to school, basketball and having two babies here (I'm doing some daycare) etc–all good stuff just need to figure out who is driving which kid when and where. What am I actually thankful for this week?

I am thankful for:

1. A good (free) night at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam. I'd recommend it! It's on until January 21st.

2. Beautiful sunrises. Our three big kids have been sleeping in but getting up with baby has been easier with this sight AND a programmable coffee maker.

3. A projector. I don't like a like of plastic gimicky toys but Nya has loved this projector. She spends 1-2 hours crafting/drawing per day so this is definitely fun for her.

4. A sunshine-filled walk at Tynehead. We can't do a lot as a family of six because baby still naps 2X a day and it's pretty cold out but the Tynehead loop was perfect (she just napped in the stroller).

5. Sweet moments. You know the ones that melt your heart? Love seeing my kids share their love without being asked to. When Baby leaves (which we have no idea when that will happen), this may be the one that breaks my heart. We are all very attached already.

6. An afternoon at Grouse Mountain. Our passes expired so we went one last time. Big high five to our babysitter who we are so thankful for (Safe Baby approved and drives to our house!). It was pretty blustery up there so I'm glad with didn't take Baby.

7. Skating! So fun for Nya to try it for the first time. We brought our own skates up so it was free (although we forgot about helmets #momfail)

8. Flying with dad! My dad texted and asked if I wanted to fly to Victoria for the afternoon–sure! With Gary home to watch the kids I could leave for a few hours. It was a beautiful day and although I'm always slightly anxious (especially above the water), it went well! I just have to remind myself that if he can fly around Canada, he can fly to Victoria.

9. Koen's 9th birthday! We had a mini celebration at home with cake, birthday bumps and the meal of his choice (hotdogs, bacon and root beer–yikes!). His friend party is on Saturday so hopefully that goes well. It stresses me out because I want everyone to have fun so hopefully everyone likes playing dodgeball and soccer which are his requests!

This is the cake we had and it is so good! Quinoa Chocolate Cake from Quinoa 365 which is a cookbook I really like.

10. Meeting up with friends! I went for a walk with Leah this morning in Fort Langley and then met up with Lynette in Abbotsford. It is hard to "escape" sometimes so with Gary home I try to do it when I have the chance!

To those of you that experienced power outages and trees down because of the storm I know it wasn't fun but oh my goodness, was it ever beautiful!

What is something that you are thankful for today?

Love,
Louise

  1. So glad you remembered it was Thursday - when I checked earlier today and didn't see your post, I had to double-check that it was indeed Thursday! I always look forward to your Thankful Thursday posts. I am thankful to have had our youngest son home for over 2 weeks and the last fews days, his girlfriend too. They head back to Montreal on the train on Saturday. Also thankful for FaceTime with our grandsons in Vancouver!

    1. So glad you had two weeks together! FaceTime is so amazing to me (well even Skype)—so great for long distance. Thanks for always reading!

  2. I am SO thankful for sick pay. I rarely rarely call in sick and then Dec 28 hit me like a truck, and I'm still not working. If I wasn't getting paid it would be a whole different ballgame worrying about money.

    1. Sorry to hear you are sick. I had a flu that made me just so weak for a week. Sick pay is there for a reason! I think Gary has maybe had one sick day in 16 years?!

    2. Wow! He has a good immune system!! Your flu and this cold is not just another bug, it's quite intense - much tougher for you though cause you still had kids to look after!
