Thankful Thursday

Hey team! Along with the fresh start that September brings, I have this sense of blah. There's some small problems in our home this week. Our new flooring isn't doing what it's supposed to (lay flat) so we've followed up with the manufacturer. Our hot water tank stopped working on Tuesday night so we had to throw a whole bunch of money towards a new one last night. Not a super exciting purchase as it's hidden away in a closet in the basement. Then there's the bigger issues that we are hearing about each day. The hurricanes that have hit the south are just heart-breaking. Every place we visited in March (Puerto Rico, Florida, St. Kitts, St. Martin, Grand Turk) has been greatly affected. Waterton Lakes National Park, which we visited in August, is experiencing a major wildfire which has caused so much destruction and loss. I can't even think of all the animals there.

So, in order to take a moment to focus on the positives, here are ten things I am thankful for today:

1. I joined a ball hockey team. I played in University for 2 years and fell in love with it. After I graduated, I joined a co-ed ice hockey team to meet boys but only ended up gaining some new hockey skills. I coached girl's ball hockey at the high school I taught at and always dreamed of playing again. I played flag football for years (another love of mine!) but that ended in 2009 when I was diagnosed with Graves'. All that said, I always wanted to join a team close to home and found out that it is offered in Langley! Just a one hour game each week on the same day. So ideal for someone like me. I am so excited and starting to work out just a bit more so that I don't fall apart at the half.

2. Nya Bear joins in on the fun. She says that she would rather be the cheerleader and this is just true to her character–such an encourager, but she's great at giving it her all. She's way better at hockey than I was at that age. I don't think I had even touched a stick at the age of five.

3. Soon-to-be new counters. They will be white with marble-ish pattern (Misterio). This is just a sample slab and not sure when the installation date is yet.

4. Simple moments like watching Nya get every last drop. Gotta clean out that bowl!

5. Sweet and sour pork. We're trying to eat less meat and are doing well but I'm such a sucker for sweet and sour pork. At least it's healthier when it's homemade, right?

6. Our new lunch boxes. I love them so far. And yes, normally I'd advocate for the kids making their own lunches but I sort of like doing these new bento ones. They are Go Green Lunch Boxes in case you were wondering (not sponsored).

7. New hot water heater means laundry and showers. Yes. I had a bucket "shower" which reminded me of my time in Kenya.

8. Growing our own tomatoes. I made a Vegan Black Bean Soup with them. This doesn't look too good but this is just the creamy part of the soup.

9. Yummy salads with our tomatoes too. Yes, using it twice here.

10. Time to read. Okay, so I haven't had as much time as I would like but more than I did before. I would like one hour every day. I seriously have seven books out from the library right now (usually I do one at a time) but after all these great suggestions, I had to put a whole bunch on hold!

If I could add one more thing it is that my kids all have the perfect teacher for their needs and personalities and we are so happy! I went to the Meet the Teacher night and although I knew all three beforehand, it just reiterated how great they are and how much they care about our kids. Super thankful for that. Priceless.

I hope you are having a good week and I would love to hear what you are thankful for today!

Love,
Louise
