Another week has flown by. I often feel overwhelmed on Mondays with "How can I teach four more days?" and then by Wednesdays I'm like "Yahoo, the week is almost done!". Don't get me wrong, I love my job and am thankful for it, but you know, I also love time alone. So what am I thankful for this week?
1. Family is safe. Gary called on Monday morning and I knew immediately it was bad news because he doesn't call me. He had taken the kids to school in the van and was rear-ended. I'm so thankful that it was minor. Gary and Kai were in a larger accident in June so that brought back bad memories for Kai especially. Now to deal with getting a new bumper...
2. Hockey! My season just finished and we ended up with a solid 3rd place. We probably should have gotten second but we were missing some players in the playoffs. I normally play winger but had to fill in for center a lot; I'm proud of myself for trying something new that required more running and defensive work. Now for the boys to finish their season and move on to the Spring League! It will be very busy as the boys will now be playing about three days a week each (different days) and I still have it once per week.
3. Being able to run. Sort of. I ran 3 km on Saturday as I'm still taking things slow with my foot (plantar faciitis). I've had it for about 2 months now and spend a lot of time stretching and icing each day. Hockey is especially hard on it as there is a lot of quick changing of directions.
4. Some snow. It was kind of fun to experience a bit of winter even though it was such a little amount. It has definitely been a lot colder than we are used to as we are in the negatives all week.
5. Netflix. It sure is fun to watch TV when you want to! Times have sure changed from 20 years ago when you had to be home to watch a show OR make sure you had your VHS tapes ready to go!
6. New jeans! I really like Silver jeans and found a pair at Winners for $40. They are 1/2" too tight but I went for it anyway. I have been doing intermittent fasting (eating just 10 AM to 6 PM) and have lost 1.5" off my belly in one week (around my belly button).
7. Library books. I always have so many books on the go. I love being half days now so I have more time to read and exercise. The cooking and writing haven't been happening and I'm okay with that. Meals still get made, they just aren't as exciting. This book was good–4/5.
8. The recumbent bike. It's best for my foot so I can get my "steps" in without putting a lot of pressure on my foot. I had found it online for $50 and once I'm better we'll probably get rid of it as it's not my favourite way to exercise.
9. Nighttime with Nya. Being that we have had five other younger kids than her over the past 3.5 years, I really missed out on some quality nighttime routines with her. We now spend time reading together which I appreciate and so does she! My baby...
10. Time to exercise. I feel like I can breathe again being in my second semester of work and not fostering. I have time to read or do errands or do a quick workout routine. Love Fitness Blender or a quick walk/run on the treadmill. I don't know what September will look like for me working as I'm on a one year contract but I'm hopeful to find another work/life balance. I may "just" sub if there is no part time science position for me.
All right, that wraps up another week! What are you thankful for today?
Love,
Louise
