Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

The one thing I really want to write about is my foot. Yes. I will probably do a separate post on it in case someone else suffers from plantar fasciitis, but wow, what a process. I don't do injuries well. Four months ago I started having chronic pain in my foot (I've always struggled with fallen arches) which I later learned was plantar fascisstis. I have tried to be patient and do all I was supposed to in order to heal (massage, icing, cast at night, orthotics, podiatrist, meds etc) and it took soooooooooooooooooooo long. However, I was given the "go ahead" to run this week and run I did. I'm "only" doing 3 km each time but it feels very good to get going again. It is still only at about 85% but I'll take it. Getting older is hard, friends!

So, here we go with my Thankful Thursday. This week I am thankful for:

1. A relaxing Spring Break vacation.
I'm really glad we had the all-inclusive vacation and it was probably the easiest trip we've done with our kids in regards to managing behaviours etc. Don't get me wrong, I didn't get to sit back and relax as much as I thought but overall I was a pretty chill Louise.

2. Garage sale season.
Garage sales make me giddy. I try to be wise with what I purchase because we have purged so much in the past few years. This last weekend I found some large Tupperware containers which took me back to my childhood. I love this square one, such a classic. I had great memories of my mom's cookies in there and we were allowed one per day. My kids are allowed two ;)

3. Books.
I give this book a 4.5/5. I don't normally love descriptive language and maybe it's the naturalist/biologist perspective in the story but I loved it.

I don't like making lunches but I do like to control what they eat at school. These lunch boxes make it super speedy as long as I have muffins and cookies made.

5. Hockey season.
It's go time! We have a hockey game about five evenings a week between the three of us and we love it. The past three years we were fostering so this should be easier to manage? Looking forward to seeing how the boys do and thankful that they love it so much. Our women's league has moved from four teams when we started up to seven now so that's pretty exciting!

6. Shopping with Nya Bear.
Thankfully for hand-me-downs she really doesn't need any clothes but she really wanted a unicorn sundress so we picked one up at H&M for $6.99. I have great memories of my mom taking me to the mall with her so it was fun to go with Nya Bear.

7. Running again.
I was able to run 3 km four times this week! Super thankful. My body is a lot heavier now (due to injury and age and working) so it's not easy running but hopefully I will stay injury free and shed a few pounds to make my body healthier. Trying to lose weight by eating healthy and exercising is wildy difficult at this age, let me tell you.

8. This guy.
We're in a good place.

9. Nya's health.
We made it through this winter without having to be on puffersthe whole time and zero doctor visits. So thankful!!!

10. Time for Gary and I.
We often go for a quick walk together while Kai watches the kids. It's so nice to have pockets of freedom.

I would encourage you to practice gratitude, it really does help your mindset! What are YOU thankful for today?

Love,
Louise

  1. Such good stuff, though #8 made me smile the most. Being able to say "We're in a good place" is such a blessing and a gift.

And yay for running again!!! Happy for you, especially as this is the perfect running weather. (I am on a short break as I hurt my lower back.)

Also, considering a bento box as a sports night dinner option. Especially as we often all go at different times and in different directions. What brand do you have and would you recommend it?

    1. You're such a great commenter :) I hope your back feels better soon for both your physical and mental health! We use GoGreen Lunch boxes but they are from the USA and shipping is high. You could look on their site for a local retailer maybe? We love ours but Kai isn't wanting to use it in high school so not sure how useful it would be for your crew...
