Disney's Hollywood Studios {Walt Disney World}

For our final day at Walt Disney World, we had one more park to visit; Hollywood Studios!  We first had another taping for Breakfast Television at Epcot early in the morning.  It was cool to see the topiaries lit up so early in the morning.

We watched, sang, cheered until 9 am.  The DJ was awesome and we all got in on the dancing.  Well, not Gary.  He had only slept about 2 hours due to a flu bug and was hanging out in the background.

As soon as it was finished, we took a bus right to Hollywood Studios. Our first stop was Toy Story Midway Mania.  Our kids all loved this ride.  We wore our 3-D glasses and tried to shoot the targets for top points.  Kai won (and I tried my hardest!).  They probably would have done this ride over and over again. Toy Story is probably the best ride for our family given our kid's age range.

The lineups for the characters were about 10 minutes long so we met Sofia the First.

She was so great with each kid.  Doesn't Kai look like he's flirting with her?

She danced with Nya. So sweet!

We went to the Disney Junior-Live on Stage.  There's not a bad seat in the house.

It was a bit `young' for Kai and Koen but we all just watched Nya soak it in.  She loved all of the songs and it was very interactive with bubbles and gold `coins' coming from the ceiling.

We had lunch at the ABC Commissary.  I was super impressed with the kid's meal prices ($5.99) and the fact that they offer apples or carrots with them.  Part of our winning package included a $600 Disney Card which we could use for all of our food.  I cannot tell you how much I loved having this card.  We spent about $450 on food for the four days there.  Not bad for a family of 5!  Usually I wouldn't let Nya indulge in a sweet treat like this but it was so cute and we had the money for it ;)

She took one bite and it was just too sweet! We all tried eating it but couldn't.

The boys LOVED watching America's Funniest Home Videos and I enjoyed having air conditioning to hang out in while they giggled away. It was pretty hot and humid while we were there.

We got a picture with Lightning and Mater.  It's too bad that Koen has passed the car stage as he was in it for a solid 3 years.  Nya was sad that she couldn't go inside the cars and lost it for a minute.

One show that all three of our kids like watching (yes, even Nya) is Phineus and Ferb.  I know I've said this so many times but I was just in awe how well they interacted with each child according to their personalities.

We did Voyage of the Little Mermaid as a family for Nya.  Gary and I just wanted an air conditioned room to sit in (and Gary wanted a 20 minute nap).  I can't say that it was that great but Nya liked it.  If she was into Frozen, we definitely would have done the Frozen Sing Along.  I wish that we had done it but we were running low on energy and still had a few rides to do!

Gary, Kai and Koen then went and did Star Tours-The Adventure Continues while Nya and I wandered through the gift shop checking out new things to add to her `Birthday List'.  Next up, I took the boys on the Rock `n' Roller Coaster.   It was a really good ride and although Koen's face does not look impressed, he loved it. We all did.  The last ride of the day was the Tower of Terror.  Kai wasn't feeling 100% so just Koen and I went on it.  Koen loved that one, too.  I actually thought that the ride was just the `warm up' and that we were going to do a very large drop, but that was it!

We really enjoyed our time at Hollywood Studios.  It's probably the hardest park to navigate but there were a lot of attractions there that our family enjoyed!

For our last hour there, we allowed each of the kids to spend $30 using our Disney Card.  What did they choose?  Kai chose Disney pins.

Koen chose 3 stuffed animals.  Nya didn't get to choose anything as she fell asleep in the stroller!

This probably would have been such a highlight for her but I did not want to wake her up!  I chose a Minnie necklace for her and we still have money left on our card so she can buy something off the Disney store online for her birthday.

{October is not her birthstone but purple is her favourite colour}

I took the kids to dinner while Gary rested and then we had a final swim in the pool!  We had to get the kids to bed by 7:30 pm (in their clothes!) because we had to leave the hotel by 3 am.  I'm so glad we had bunkbeds for the boys and a crib for Nya (that she actually slept in!).

The boys enjoyed playing catch with their stuffies in the airport.  I enjoyed drinking a coffee.

On the plane, the kids were able to watch Big Hero 6!  The flight to Toronto went well, and then, well, things went downhill fast.  Kai vomited the entire plane ride home (5 hour flight!) and then Nya joined in.  If you ever wondered how well the barf bags work, let me tell you, they work very well. Well, not really for a two year old.  Nya ended up wearing just a pull up at the end and Gary had no shirt on.  I cried.  The stewardesses on West Jet was so understanding and encouraging.  The rows around us were also so supportive telling us we were doing a good job and giving us supplies to help us out.  I can't imagine what I would have done had anyone said anything negative to us at that point. The shuttle and drive home were equally terrible and I'm thankful that Koen waited until we got home to get sick.  I won't talk about this anymore but it was sooooooo nice to get home!

I bought a mug for myself to remember this experience each and every day.  Home Sweet Home.

As I reflect back on winning this trip to Disney World, I'm so thankful.  It was an incredible family vacation and I can't believe we were the ones who were able to do it.  THANK YOU to West Jet and Breakfast Television for the memories that we were able to make on this trip.

Here is a video that Gary put together of our trip!

Thankful Thursday

My stomach is in happy knots so I cannot wait for tomorrow to get here.  However, there are more things to be thankful for than a trip so this week I am thankful for:

1. Nya feeling 70% better.  The ear infection doesn't seem to be bothering her but she is still fighting something and she's tired.  We visited an AMAZING chiropractor yesterday who was so good with her.  She let him assess and adjust her for 20 minutes.  Afterwards, she was happier than she's been in a month.  He recognized the tightness in her chest, neck, and jaw (she grinds her teeth at night) and hopefully he can help her relax and realign.  Maybe this will help some of her respiratory issues?  One can hope!  He also noticed that she was dehydrated so we've been hydrating her with chocolate almond milk as she isn't a big drinker.

2.  Kai playing hockey.  I've said this a few times, I know.  I'm glad we waited until he was 8 to start playing team sports just because it's a time commitment.  Kai and I were both SO nervous for the first game but things have definitely improved as he now has 3 games under his belt.

3.  My iron being high enough to donate blood.  The cut off for the amount of Hb in your blood is 125  and what was I?!  125 :)  Anyone else throw their hand in the air shouting `Yahoo!' when their iron is high enough?

4.  Father daughter moments.  I love them.

5.  Princess fun.  These three have a great time together.  Dressing up, playing babies, practicing ballet, watching Paw Patrol....non stop.

6.  Our office/mudroom.  I still have a few little changes to make but I love how functional and clean this room is now!

7. A husband who buys me beer.  Gary doesn't drink but he knows that I like a beer a couple of times a week.  He found this chocolate flavoured one for me, YUM!

8.  A family vacation.  I don't know if I will fully relax until we get there but it's happening IN ONE MORE SLEEP.   My stomach is an excited/nervous mess.  Well, I probably won't relax once I'm there as the itinerary is pretty packed.  Thankful that our house will be looked after while we're gone, too ;).

9. Finding the last items on my list for our trip.   We will have rain with high temperatures for two of the days so I found cheap dollar store ponchos (thank you for the suggestions, Stephanie!).  I also bought a bluetooth selfie stick and a `new' bathing suit for Kai.

10. Disney World. Disney World. Disney World.  A totally unexpected family vacation.  If you watch Breakfast Television, we will be on Monday and Tuesday morning.  I'm not sure what time you will see us...maybe throughout the entire morning.  Those two days we need to be out of our hotel by 5:15 am to appear on tv. There were about 10 families from across Canada who won so they will be there with us.

All right, friends!! I hope to share pictures over the next 6 days via Instagram and Facebook so please follow along!  I'm not sure if I'll have energy/time to blog while there, we'll see!

Louise

Disney World Preparations

Almost two weeks ago we won a trip to Disney World!  We will be leaving next week so things have been moving quite quickly.

 Although the trip we won was for a family of four, we were able to buy Nya a plane ticket and she will be joining us!  She won't be three until May so she is able to sleep in a crib in our fancy resort and enter Disney World for free.  The cost, if she had been over the age of three, would have been over $2000.00 just for an additional room (and then the cost of the park entrance on top of it!).  Thankful for AWESOME timing.

{Image taken from here which is where we are staying; Animal Kingdom Lodge.}

What are we doing to prepare (other than Gary learning all the princess names)?

1. Watching YouTube videos of the top 10 rides at Disney World.  There's a lot of Top 10 ride videos.

{Koen is hoping to sit beside me on almost every ride.  When he is unable to hold my hand, this is his face.  Oh Koey.}

2.  Watching Disney movies like; The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Finding Nemo.  Thank you to friends that have lent them to us!

{The boys think that Ed the hyena from `The Lion King' is hilarious and they want his autograph.  I don't think that will happen. }

3.  Buying summer clothes.  I was 18 lbs heavier last summer so I had to buy new shorts and tank tops.  Thankfully I found some at Target on sale!  Gary also bought a bathing suit there.  I bought the kids a few Disney items from Value Village and found Kai some good Columbia walking sandals from Once Upon a Child.

4.  I made a list of our `must see/do' at each park. There are six parks (two are water parks) and we have just four days to see it all!  I printed up these `cheat sheets' that show what to book a fast pass for and the order of rides to do so that you have the shortest wait times and least amount of walking.  I'm a bit nervous about the condition of my kids as we are arriving in Florida at 11:30 pm.  Usually guests receive three fast passes per day (they get you onto a ride at a set time) but we have eight each per day!

{Koen is just 47" but he is allowed to do every ride that he would like to.  Phew! The biggest rides are 48" but I don't think I want him, or Kai, to be doing them anyway.  Plunge 12 stories on the Summit Plummet?  No thanks! }

{The chart above shows the average temperatures & precipitation over the years,  how busy it will be based on the dates  (5/10),  what parks to visit (green), parade times, etc}

5.  I found out the best counter service restaurants to eat at in each park.  Loved this website.  We have $600 USD to spend at Disney World so we are using that for all of our meals.  The last thing I want to be doing is sweating with three tired and hungry kids trying to figure out where to eat. I can see us sitting down for a nice meal at our hotel though.  African inspired specialties?  Ndiyo, tafadahli! (yes, please!).  As for a character meal, I'm not sure.  It's Nya who is most into the characters and so far I haven't been able to find a spot available to dine with princesses.  I think that just meeting them will be enough for her.

We still don't have our final itinerary and I'm pretty sure that we will be on Breakfast Television live from Florida so we are just awaiting that information.  We were able to figure out Gary's work (combination of personal days and him paying for a sub) and the total cost of everything should be close to $1500.00 with the majority of that being Nya's plane ticket.

What am I looking forward to the most?  Seeing the boys on the rides and watching Nya's face when she gets to meet the princesses and Minnie Mouse.  Oh ya, and I'm looking forward to snorkeling in the Shark Reef.

Thank you so much for following along.  I can't wait to share what we experience!

Love,
Louise

PS If you've been to Disney World, please let me know what we `have to' do!
