Tigh-Na-Mara Family Reunion

We just had our third family reunion at Tigh-Na-Mara in Parksville, B.C. There were 33 of us and again, it was the perfect location! Although there is a ferry involved to get there which increase the cost and time, we were able to get home in about four hours from door to door – not bad. We had amazing weather (mid 20's) and the kids had a blast with their cousins. The resort is quite accessible for strollers and wheelchairs to get around and to the beach (but not on the beach) but know that the path back up to the resort is steep. So grateful for this opportunity to hang out, connect and make memories!

Here are five reasons why we love it there as a large group:

1. There are six cabins in a cul-de-sac so we get the whole area to ourselves!

The kids are able to run from cabin to cabin and play in the middle together exploring the forest and playing sports. It's safe, we don't have to worry about noise and it's in the shade.

2. The beach is awesome.

You can walk down to the beach in 10 minutes and the tide goes out so far that it makes it a lot safer to manage so many kids. There are tide pools galore and many little crabs for them to discover (and sand dollars and jellyfish!). Also, with our oldest being able to babysit, Gary and I could get out for a walk on the beach each night.

3. There are many activities for the kids.

We didn't even use the basketball court or tennis court but the kids spent oodles of time in the pool and hot tub and playing chess. There is also a playground and recreation program, too–something for every age. Nya's favourite was the pool and I like that it is indoors and shaded.

4. Meals are so easy.

The cabins have full kitchens which enabled to us to have potlucks (grocery stores nearby, too) or you can eat in or get take out from their own Cedars Restaurant. Note that their pizzas are 2 for 1 on Mondays and are made in their new stone oven.

Gary and I enjoyed a sunset on the beach with dessert...

5. Non-stop nature to explore.

Gary and I went for a run each day and my sisters and I walked to Rathtrevor Provincial Park. It's the perfect balance between being close to stores and being fully immersed in nature. We had no problem getting 20,000 steps per day! Also, I know I mentioned the shade already but other than the beach, there is ample shade everywhere which is such a plus for me.

We spent three nights there which was a great amount for our group. The cabins are a great fit for each family because they have two bedrooms and a pull-out couch with cots available if need be. Looking forward to heading back again in a few years...

Have you been?

Love.
Louise
